I bought this Home Backup portable generator after the last one died but I did not know a thing about what should be the right replacement. The customer service at Westinghouse via emails (10 or more) explained to me in detail what the alphabets next to the numerals in their model numbers meant and, ignorant as I was, the existing connection from a portable generator to the Transfer Switch in my home required me to choose between a "neutral ground" and a "floating ground" generator. Westinghouse customer guy researched and found out that my previous Generac model was a "neutral ground" machine and so suggested a replacement with an equivalent Westinghouse generator model.
The email communication with Customer Service is probably the best among all vendors that I have dealt with in my life, though customer service through phone calls is a different story and leaves a lot to be desired.
I have not yet used the generator for a hook up to my home, but after assembling it, I started it a couple of times, and it ran with electric start perfectly. I also checked the power in 120 volt receptacles and that was fine, but the 120V/240V switch has to be set at 120V. For the home hookup, I have to set the switch to 240 volts for connecting to a 10/4 30-amp cable with a NEMA L14-30P plug to my home transfer switch. So that means that I will never be able to use my 120 Volt receptacles on the generator. This is unlike my previous Generac unit which allowed 240 volt and 120 volt receptacles to be used simultaneously.
I would have given it a 5-star rating if the design would have allowed the simultaneous use of 240v/120v receptacles, AND had this unit come with a built-in float (trickle) charger to keep the battery ready for any emergency (meaning power failure) in the home. I understand Westinghouse has models with that feature, though not this one. As it is, I will have to buy a trickle charger separately and Amazon sells good ones for about $50 and upwards.
Great Small backup Generator
Use on my house for limited critical circuits since, I rarely need one. Westinghouse service is really responsive since I originally ordered a different model which arrived with bent frame during shipment. Even spoke with a live person. They had it picked up since a damaged frame puts undue stress on the generator component.
I really like the propane option making it easy to use without leaving gasoline to age in the unit. Currently, I only use with propane. Not overly loud like some generators. The CO safety feature I really do not need since I use a 20' generator chord and it is out on the driveway away from the garage door. (That feature looks like more protecting a fool from his own foolishness I guess.)
Started up without issue. Did follow the break in procedure with changing oil and using oil cleaner initially. Expect this generator to last quite a while.
Very good generator
Totally stoked to fire this thing up, it’s the middle of the week and unfortunately have to work so that will have to wait. Very well thought out design, love the fact that you can manually choke it vs using the auto choke junk. Love the electric start with the option to pull start in a pinch. I looked at generators of the same wattage output and feel like I got a really great deal, although I live on the gulf coast and bought this just before hurricane Ian hit Florida and the day before it hit the price jumped up $100 in a matter of hours it seemed, guess I lucked out. I used the supplied formulas for how much wattage I’ll need to power my fridge, chest freezer, 4000btu window unit, a couple of led lamps, a small fan and my tv and will still have plenty of running watts left to spare if and when we lose power. Left three stars for the noise since I have not had the chance to run it yet, will update my review after I do. I did not have any shipping damage to my generator, I seemed very well packaged, mine was delivered by 2 Amazon contracted freight drivers. As you can see in the picture I also bought the yellow 4 prong twist plug that separates 240v into 4 - 120v outlets to take advantage of the generators full output utilizing the 240v switch, well worth the money spent.
Good customer service and quick delivery
Awesome client service and fast delivery! I'm impressed.
Received the kit the day after I ordered it and it works
I received the parallel kit the day after I ordered it. I connected it to two Honda EU2000i generators and started them and turned the ECO switch to the off position (high rpm). I turned my RV’s air conditioner on. The A/C worked fine. I went out and turned the ECO switch to the ON position (both generators were idling) to see if the generators could hold the load. I really thought there was no way the A/C would continue to run, but it did.
